Whether one is a school leaver, mature student, or employer, it is a great time to apply to us. Tsavo Institute of Technology is exciting in a myriad of ways. Our students have a fantastic rate of success. After they finish their academic programmes; most of them secure a place at university, get well paying jobs while others excel in the world of business.
The courses that we offer are designed to give students both the knowledge and skills to help them secure a better future. We have practical training facilities where students gain on site experience. We ensure that our students are well moulded in terms of confidence, positive attitude and personality. Our system ensures that soft skills are valued too alongside academic excellence.Our student experience is officially one of the best in the country.
We recognize that a great institute is about creativity, it is about engagement in a broad co-curricular activities and it is about having fun. We therefore welcome each and everyone to visit us and witness this wonderful training institute located adjacent to Tsavo East National Park.
Our History
Tsavo Institute of Technology was founded in the year 2000 and was then known as Tsavo Park Hotel Institute. It started with 22 students who were taking Tourism and Hospitality courses only and making use of Tsavo Park Hotel as the practical training facility. The main courses offered were Hotel and Catering Management, Tour Guiding and Administration, Food Production; Food and Beverage Sales and Services; Front Office Operations; and Housekeeping Operations, all at Diploma level.
Many employees in tourism and hospitality industry had no formal training, the institute was started to fill in this gap. To satisfy the needs of the Tourism industry which is largely foreign; the institute opted for international curriculum and international examinations that would enable our graduates to work anywhere in the world. Today a good number of former students are working abroad.
In the year 2004, the institute got affiliated to Moi University. It started offering Moi University diploma courses in hospitality and tourism field namely, Hotel and Restaurant Management; Tour Guiding Management; and Tourism Management. This collaboration has enabled many of our graduates to join Moi University for further studies.
As the popularity of the institute grew, the demand for more courses came up. In year 2007, the institute's name was changed to Tsavo Institute of Technology and more courses were introduced. These included Business courses; Community Development courses; and Information Technology courses. We also started offering Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) examined course in specific areas.
Since inception Tsavo Institute has remained focused on providing students with practical/technical skills as dictated by market demands. This explains why our graduates are on very high demand.
Overview of Tsavo Institute of Technology
Tsavo Institute of Technology is a tertiary institution known for producing high flying professionals in various disciplines. The institute offers diplomas and certificates in Hotel and Hospitality courses, Tour Guiding and Tourism courses, Community Development and Social Work, Computing and Information Communication Technology, and Business Management and related courses.
Tsavo Institute of Technology is a member of Tsavo Camps and Lodges. It also serves as the training wing of Tsavo Camps and Lodges. The institute is affiliated to Moi University and offers Diplomas from Moi University, Institute of Commercial Management, UK; City and Guilds International, London; Kenya National Examination Council, (KNEC), among other professional qualifications which are recognized both locally and internationally.
Each and every course is enriched with in depth practical sessions, long attachment periods of between 3 months and 9 months, regular and extensive academic tours, and at least one foreign language and basic computer skills.
The institute exhibits very unique features. Located within Tsavo Ecosystem, between Tsavo West and Tsavo East National Parks, tourism activities are highly pronounced. The institute has fully pledged practical training hotel namely Tsavo Lodge situated just next to our modern students' hostel. Situated in a semi-arid area, there are many Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO's) working to uplift the local communities placing the institute in a superior position to offer community development and related course.
